A Celebrant in the Time of Covid-19

The death of a loved one knows no boundaries. During this time of social distancing, people continue to experience death losses. It isn’t just the deaths of those who contract Covid-19, but other deaths too. Grief is all around us. Because of social distancing and travel restrictions, families find themselves struggling to connect and be present with one another after a death has occurred.

During this challenging time, there are several ways Deb can support families that experience the death of a loved one. Using Zoom we can gather using one of today’s technology for a brief memorial service. During this 15 – 20-minute service we will use storytelling, poetry, and scripture to begin saying goodbye.

Even though families may not have the full memorial or celebration of life service they wish to have right now, we can meet on a conference call to plan the service you envision. Together we will create a comforting ceremony to be delivered on a future date. After our call, Deb will prepare and send you the completed service for future use. And, if you choose, she can aid in the ceremony (in Central Indiana) at the time when large gatherings are once again permitted. If you aren’t in Indiana, the service Deb prepares will be yours to have. It will serve as the centerpiece of the service you desire when the time comes for honoring your loved one.

What is a Funeral Celebrant?

Funeral celebrants bring a personalized approach to creating a meaningful celebration of life or memorial service. Highly trained to work with grieving families, celebrants create the space so that glimpses of hope and encouragement can be experienced. When words aren’t enough, funeral celebrants bring creativity, ideas and elements of ceremony to enable families to honor and remember their loved one. Funeral celebrants serve as resources for the most difficult day in the life of a family.

Working with Deb

“When you are grieving someone or something you’ve lost, there isn’t an answer or solution or just the right words to make you feel whole again. Working with Deb was a gift within my grieving. Deb’s gentleness and thoughtful listening was so compassionate.

There was healing kindness within her silence, between and among her words. She followed my lead, guiding me gently toward connection allowing me to celebrate my memories and live fully within the sadness of my loss. She helped me. My heart opened around her in a unique and unguarded manner.

It was with the utmost gratitude and highest respect that I recommend her to anyone who is working to grow within and ultimately beyond grief.”
